Garden Party!

Come and join us for a celebration of all that has been achieved during the course of the Keighley Garden of Life project! The Town Mayor will be attending to officially open the space and there will be music, refreshments and plenty of good cheer.

At the celebration, the DalesMandala Team will be handing over the space to the newly formed Green Team who will keep an eye on the Garden until we all come together again for the quarterly planting days planned throughout the year.

After plenty of hard graft, sweat and toil, it will be great to see everyone who has made the project such a success in the garden together. All the contributors have been invited and it will be a great opportunity to see just how many people have pitched in to make the project come to life.

So bring a bottle, bring a friend, pray for good weather and we'll see you on Sunday!

Planting Day 3

The final Planting Day is nearly upon us!

With plenty left to do we're hoping for an inspiring turnout this Sunday to complete the final day of digging and planting. The boulders will be going in during the week along with the beginnings of the entrance circle, due to logistical constraints, but there will be a plethora of other jobs to complete on our final planting day.

We've got nine of these beauties - generously donated by Gillsons Quarry, Haworth

We will be adding to the wildlife trail, completing the entrance circle with bark chip and a planted central ring, the tractor tyre needs planting and the boulders may need bark chip around their bases. We will be adding spur paths from the entrance circle to the various features of the garden and you never know, we may even finish the pond!!!

Plenty to do, plenty to see, plenty to get involved in. Come along whenever you can, pray for good weather and, if you haven't already, go on to Facebook and join the Green Team! We need as many people as possible to ensure that the garden will stay looking great for future generations. See you there!

Planting Day 2

The second planting day is intended to bring places to sit, eat and socialise into the garden. It will involve assembling some garden furniture, including picnic benches and arbour seats and we're hoping to make a start on the bird trail! We're not making any more stepping stones but we are hoping to get some more into the ground as the paths start to take shape. We'll be finishing the fence around the pond and then hopefully the shape of the garden will start to take form. See you all on Sunday!

Once again, bring clothes that are suitable for gardening and make sure you have enough to eat and drink! Bring tools along if you can but make sure they have your name on and don't forget to take them home.

Planting Day 1

We intend to be in the garden all day so please come to the same location where we held the Launch Day. There may be vehicles in and around the area delivering materials and equipment so please be careful and keep small children close by.

The first planting day will involve digging our pond, planting some vegetable and herbs beds (as well as making them!) and we'll be making more mosaic stepping stones as well. The activities are suitable for young and old and we need plenty of strong people for shifting stuff about. We'll be constructing the raised beds from scratch so if you know a joiner then bring him or her along with you! :)

If you have any gardening equipment you can bring that would be great but make sure it's labelled and don't leave it unattended on the day. We'll be using spades and wheelbarrows, hammers, drills and screws as well as the usual stuff for planting seeds and pot plants. Bring a big packed lunch - you're going to need it!!!

We'll be in the garden all day but you're free to come and go as you please. Wear suitable clothing and footwear that can get dirty and scuffed and be prepared to get dirty yourself! We've got a surprise planned for later in the day so you can come along, get involved, stick around and make a difference!

The Creative Workshop

The next stage of the project will be a creative project at Central Hall on Alice Street in Keighley. On the day we'll be creating something like the sample stone shown below using quartzite pebbles, slate chips and ceramic tiles! Come along and show us how creative you can be with your kids, parents, grandparents, friends and neighbours.

You don't need to bring anything as we will provide all the materials you will need but we suggest wearing clothes that can get mucky as we'll be working with adhesives. If you didn't sign up on Launch Day you'll need to bring your £1 to sign up - it's going to be a day of fun and creativity for everyone!

We've arranged for the cafe to be open so food will be available to buy during the day although you're more than welcome to bring sandwiches if you wish.

We're really keen to get your ideas for the garden so we'll be giving you the opportunity to get some drawings down on paper. Give us as much detail as possible and the best suggestions might just make it into the final design!

You can keep track of the latest information via Facebook and Twitter and please feel free to post, like and comment as the project develops!

WE NEED YOU!

Come and join us this summer to create a new community garden in Cliffe Castle Park! We're going to need as many people as possible so please come along with your family, friends and kids to join in the fun.

We'll be holding a sign-up day at the garden location to give people a feel for the space and to start generating ideas. All you need to bring is £1 and a bucket load of enthusiasm - we'll sort the rest.

We believe that people from all walks of life, faith groups, young and old can get involved and make a difference in the local area. We want to encourage families to bring their children into the garden to learn and engage with nature for years to come.
The garden will be for all of us so let's build it together!
